Darrel J. Stephenson, age 24, has allegedly sexually abused a 12 year old boy on the soccer team he coaches. He was arrested Friday at his home in Crest Hill after investigation from Will County Sheriff’s Police.
Stephenson appeared in court this morning with charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He had a $750,000 bail. He was ordered to have absolutely no contact with minors should he post 10 percent of that bond.
The investigation was a week long before police determined he had, in fact, had sexual contact with a 12 year old boy. The charges came after the investigation, and Ken Kaupas, spokesman of the sheriff’s office, stated Stephenson had “been in the company of the child on several occasions”.
The release states he had been a soccer coach around the Frankfort, Joliet, and Plainfield areas. His primary coaching was in the soccer field, however he also hosted sports for the Christian Youth League in Joliet.
Police also state he is “believed” to be a substitute teacher. Investigators discovered he had substituted at Plainfield Central High School in the past. The next investigation is to determine whether he’s had inappropriate contact with any other minors.
